Hi LBRA Members and locals,
On Wednesday the 16th October we held our 10th Anniversary Annual General Meeting (AGM). This was an excellent opportunity to meet the LBRA board members, local board & community groups and of course fellow residents. The event included AGM formalities, updates from the local board and key organisations, plus information on a number of relevant Long Bay topics as follows. Changes to the LBRA Board

- A huge thanks to outgoing board members Matt Corin, Alice Corin and Tony Sparks for volunteering their team to improve Long Bay.

Jason also provided a brief overview of the longbay.nz website statistics, with positive growth over the last six months.
Icebreaker
Attendees at the event were asked to create groups based on their month of birth, with the 12 groups brainstorming on the topic of Community Engagement Ideas. This activity started some excellent conversations, and the outputs at: https://bit.ly/lbraagm24ideas
LBRA Feedback Survey 2024 Results and Prize Winners
The results of the survey were presented, and showed once again that the Long Bay Regional Park/Beach is valued most, the issue mentioned the most was parking, community service was the highest in terms of interest for residents to participate in, cooking instruction was where people said they could help, and more local community facilities was where people would like development in the future. Update from Hibiscus and Bays Local Board
Gregg Walden on behalf of Alexis Poppelbaum provided an update from the local board (see minutes for the full update), which covered the following items:
- climbing net at the Regional Park playground is reinstated
- 150,000+ native plants have been planted in the regional park/Archer’s Block
- A youth park at 1 Streamview Way is targeted for completion in 2026/2027
- Auckland’s Dog Bylaws to be reviewed, consultation in early 2025, including at the regional park , with proposed change: “Amend the summer daytime rule for the beach south of Vaughan Stream from on-leash to prohibited to address potential conflicts between dogs and beachgoers on this popular beach and align with other summertime and season rules”
- Glenvar Road / East Coast Road realignment project awaiting confirmation of commencement date, (FY2025 or FY2026)
- Congratulations on LBRA / Restore Hibiscus and Bays funding win through Predatory Free NZ / and “Imagining Te Oneroa ō Kahu Long Bay” initiative.
Update from Templeton Group
A verbal update was provided on the progress of Templeton Group properties in Long Bay. Summary of the update:
- Kahu is expected to be completed by Christmas 2024, with Elementum following in early 2025, and there was excitement at the recent visit by the Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Education Minister Erica Stanford and Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop, where the Prime Minister unveiled his third action plan.
- Streamview development – 25 lots between Streamview and Nerita – is now complete
- Greenview is targeted for completion by the end of 2024, with landscaping work currently ongoing.
- Remaining super lots will then be the focus, where those have an emphasis on vertical builds.
- Restore Hibiscus and Bays has erected a pest promotion sign opposite New World. Templeton Group has expressed support for community activities such as these and is looking forward to the new playground at 1 Streamview Way.
- In terms of the future of 1 Te Oneroa Way (Lot 601) there have been frustrations with no agreed forward plan with Auckland Council.
Update from Viranda on Long Bay Village
Marnie Leask and Meagan Fakalago provided an update on Long Bay Village and tenancies, with a summary of the updates being:
- November cafe is set to open on November 1, 2024
- Another food offering is planned for the courtyard area.
- The Long Bay Village Chinese Association has the top floor next to Jetts Gym.
- Jett’s Gym has recently expanded there.
- Plans are underway to enhance the courtyard’s ambiance with lighting and events.
- Scrunchy Millars will return for the summer, starting from Labour Weekend
- Management is working to attract complementary businesses to fill remaining spaces
Panel – A focus on nature in Long Bay
Alice Corin facilitated a panel discussion with Jocelyn Sanders from Restore Hibiscus and Bays, Dick Downing, a Long Bay resident and regreening enthusiast, and Gareth Roberts, the LBRA chair. The discussion covered:
- weed management, biodiversity, and creating bird-friendly spaces.
- protecting the park and marine reserve.
- the emphasis on weed and pest removal, promoting native plants over exotics, and responsible pet ownership, particularly keeping cats indoors at night.
- the importance of community engagement, especially for properties adjacent to the park, and the goal of creating a pest-free halo around the park.
10th Anniversary Cake
The meeting finished with a celebration, with current and prior LBRA Board members cutting the cake!
