Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 15th October 2025. What an amazing turnout with 70+ active attendees and awesome ideas during our collaborative group activities on our theme of “Connecting a Community”. We’re excited to share this year’s key outcomes, initiatives, and plans for the year ahead.
AGM Highlights:
- Board Updates:
Gareth Roberts was re-elected, new members formally signed on; Maeva Ord, Sam Corbeau, and Ivy Li. We thanked outgoing board members Mark Faraj and Ming Liu for their contributions, especially Ming’s three years of service. Thanks to the remaining board too: Nicolette Land, Jason Pickens, Lara Kamionka, and student rep Gauri Ramesh. We wish Gauri well as she completes her time at Long Bay College and as student rep. - Chair’s Report:
Our three pillars – Promote, Communicate, Connect – are driving a more connected Long Bay. Highlights include:- Predator Free project success: 78 pests trapped this year, thanks to community efforts and support from Restore HB, Predator Free NZ and Pic’s Peanut Butter
- Vaughans Stream Team: Weed-busting and restoring our stream.
- Growing partnerships with Long Bay College, Chinese Association, and local area sponsors.
- Ongoing work with Auckland Council and the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board on roads, parks, and facility upgrades.
- More events (cleanups, market involvement, competitions) and activities (flyers, workshops, youth engagement).
- Constitution & Financials:
We unanimously adopted our updated constitution to comply with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 and approved the annual financial accounts which showed a healthy balance following sponsorship and grants initiatives. - Community Feedback & Survey Results:
The annual survey reinforced your top priorities: park and environment, safety, and better connections. Congrats to our survey winners – Octavia (best volunteer response), Rick and Ayden (random draw)! Enjoy your New World Long Bay gift cards! Congratulations to our survey prize winners! - Local Updates from our Speakers:
- Alexis Poppelbaum (Hibiscus & Bays Local Board) who provided info on the go ahead for Glenvar/East Coast Road upgrade & challenges related to the Vaughans Road improvements cancellation. Information about a focus on Vaughans Stream water quality, and more!
- Simon Fox (Community Constable) who provided stats indicating Long Bay has low crime rates, dropping year on year, making Long Bay a safe community. Reiteration that reporting any incidents is key to getting an accurate picture and necessary response.
- Catherine Liu (Long Bay Chinese Association) who gave an overview of the breadth of activities run by their 700+ member organisation, that residents are welcome to join.
- Mike Lewis (Deputy Principal, Long Bay College) who announced a legacy project to install an amazing international FIH standard hockey turf on the land adjacent to Long Bay Primary work commencing summer 2025/2026, plus the refurbishment of the much-loved “nostalgic” O Block commencing in April 2026.
- Get Involved:
More wins ahead! More events, more weeds removed, more rats trapped, with more connections made along the way. New partnerships and a major sponsor are still wanted – let us know if you are interested. If you’re not already volunteering, now’s a great time to join in!
