LBRA AGM Aug-2023

Thanks to all who attended the Long Bay Residents’ Association AGM on Wednesday night. And a special thanks to our speakers Nigel McKenna, Julia Parfitt, Alexis Poppelbaum, Gregg Walden and Victoria Short. Aside from the formalities, which included fantastic news with 3 nominees being accepted to the LBRA board, the evening was full of insightful information, debate and valuable discussions around Long Bay community focused items, some of which included:
– discussions around the ideas for a Community Centre, and a call for action to the community to push for this
– discussion about the ownership and potential future of Lot 601 – corner of Beach Rd and Te Oneroa Way, which Templeton has attempted to gift to Auckland Council, also noted during last year’s AGM
– discussion around potential playground ideas/options from Templeton
– notification of the “temporary” closure of Vaughans Road for at least 18-24 months – essentially severing access between 189 Vaughans Road and Long Bay, even after Templeton have upgraded the road and created the new roundabout on the Long Bay side. Note that there is quite a history on this issue with Auckland Transport committing to upgrading before the connection is made in relation to significant safety issues with Vaughans Road, and the Okura River Road intersection.
– good news notification that the storm related Glenvar Road repairs are on track for completion later in the year
– bad news in that the Glenvar/East Coast Bays Road and Glamorgan major upgrade works have been further delayed due to lack of budget and further detailed planning needs
– Hibiscus and Bays Local Board plan – feedback due 14th August 2023! http://akhaveyoursay.nz/
– Storm Recovery and Resilience – feedback due 31st August 2023 http://akhaveyoursay.nz/
– Auckland Civil Defence Emergency Management Group Plan – feedback due 31st August 2023 http://akhaveyoursay.nz/

A number of calls to action were provided during the meeting to the LBRA Board and to the community to get involved and engaged, and the LBRA Board be taking those on in due course.

The LBRA Board would also like to say a huge thank you to Jo Anslow and Colin Sandford who have stepped down from the board after a number of years dedicated service to the Long Bay community through their involvement on the board and as Long Bay Residents’ Association members!
